Do I need insurance in MN for a 50cc scooter? Is it required to register it?

I just bought a 50cc scooter and I was told that I didn’t need to register it or cover it with insurance. So I would like to know if someone is from MN and needed to both register it and add insurance to it. The scooter isn’t too big, and it’s one of the smallest of the bunch. Considering that they’re 50cc, 150cc and 200cc+ So is it really necessary?

You should transfer title if it has one. So yes register it. If you bought it from a private party make should you get a bill of sale showing proof of ownership. All it needs to say is:

Joe Smith sold , Make, Model, Year to Your Name. Both should sign and date.

If its street legal and you want to ride it on the street it needs insurance.

No motorcycle endorsement is needed if its below 50cc and go NO faster than 30 mph.

Is a 49cc scooter considered 50cc and does it need insurance?

Since it probably is not street legal, then you do not register it. You also do not drive it on the street.
